Thursday’s heavy rain led to ponding on roads, flooding in basements and even postponed the Chicago Bulls game after condensation on the United Center court.

ABC7 Chicago meteorologists are issuing an AccuWeather Alert for Thursday night, due to showers, thunderstorms and possible gusty winds.

An intensifying system moving toward the Chicago area could bring "waves of rain," potentially damaging winds and thunderstorms Thursday.

Rain moves into Chicago this afternoon as temperatures peak in the mid to upper 50s tonight, followed by cooler weather.

Friday will open mostly cloudy, windy and markedly cooler, but still well above normal. A few light spotty showers possible in the morning.

Heavy rain Thursday night caused flooding on major roads, including parts of Cicero Avenue. Several cars stalled in deep water, and wind damage added to the mess. A flood advisory remained in effect Friday morning for parts of the Chicago area.

Chicago will see its warmest stretch of the winter late this week before cooler, seasonable air settles back in for the weekend.
